Aelfgifu was born to Wynflaed who had a connection to the convent which had been founded by King Alfred the Great at Shaftesbury. Details of her father are not known. Aelfgifu and her mother maintained a close connection with the convent.
939 or 940 (around)
Aelfgifu married King Edmund I of England. The exact date of the marriage is not known but has been estimated based on the birth dates of their children.
941 (during)
A son, Eadwig, was born to Aelfgifu and Edmund. 
943 (during)
A son, Edgar, was born to Aelfgifu and Edmund.
944 (18th May)
Aelfgifu died. She was buried at Shaftesbury and made a saint after it was claimed that miracles had happened around her burial place.
