George Russell Timeline

1998 (15th February)
George Russell was born George William Russell to Steve and Alison Russell in King’s Lynn, Norfolk. He is the couple’s third child, his sister Cara and brother Benjy were born earlier.
2005 (during)
George Russell began karting. He was familiar with karting because his older brother Benjy had taken up the sport and George had watched him from a young age.
2009 (during)
Russell became Motor Sports Association (MSA) British Champion and British Open Champion.
2009 (September)
George Russell attended Wisbech Grammar School.
2010 (during)
Having graduated to Rotax Mini Max category, Russell became Super One British champion and Formula Kart Stars British Champion.
2011 (during)
George Russell moved up to KF3 class and won the Super Karts USA (SKUSA) title and the Commission Internationale de Karting – Fédération Internationale de l ‘Automobile (CIK-FIA) European Championship.
2012 (during)
Russell successfully defended his CIK-FIA European Championship.
2013 (during)
Georg Russell finished 19th in the KF1 (Formula One of Karting) World Championship.
2014 (March – October)
Russell was signed by Prema Powerteam for the Formula Renault 2.0 Alps championship but just before the championship began he switched teams and signed with Koiranen. He finished in 4th place.
2014 (April – October)
George Russell took part in the BRDC (British Racing Drivers Club) Formula 4 championship with Lanan Racing, and won the title.
2014 (December)
Russell won the McLaren Autosport BRDC Award netting £100,000 prize money, membership of the British Racing Drivers Club and a Formula One test with McLaren.
2015 (February)
George Russell was selected to join the BRDC Superstars programme. Only 12 drivers are selected and Russell, at 17 years, was the youngest-ever selected.
2015 (April – October)
Russell moved to Formula 3 after being signed by Carlin. He took part in the FIA European F3 Championship and finished in sixth place.
2015 (September)
George took part in the Masters of Formula 3 race and finished second.
2016 (April – October)
Russell moved to Hitech GP and finished third in the FIA European F3 Championship.
2017 (during)
George Russell began a relationship with Seychelle de Vries, sister of Formula 2 driver, Nyck de Vries.
2017 (early)
Russell joined the junior driver programme of Mercedes-AMG Petronas.
2017 (April – October)
The 2017 season saw Russell signed by ART Grand Prix for the GP3 Series. He won the championship.
2017 (1st – 2nd August)
George Russel drove for Mercedes in the in-season Formula One Budapest test.
2017 (12th November)
George Russell was one of the Force India Formula One practice drivers at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
2018 (May 2018)
George Russell drove for Force India as a Pirelli Tyre Test Driver, following the Spanish Grand Prix.
2018 (13th October)
George Russell signed for the Williams Formula One Team.
2019 (during)
Russell’s relationship with Seychelle de Vries ended.
2019 (during)
Russell ended his first Formula One year, driving for Williams, in 20th place.
2020 (during)
George Russell began a relationship with Carmen Montero who works at an investment firm in the UK.
2020 (during)
Russell stayed with Williams for this year but stood in for Lewis Hamilton at the Bahrain Grand Prix and earned his first championship points. He finished the championship in 18th place.
2021 (during)
Russell remained with Williams and finished the championship in 15th place.
2021 (September)
It was announced that George Russell would race for Mercedes in 2022, replacing Valtteri Bottas and partnering with Lewis Hamilton.
